Road trip. Don't have any idea where we were going, but it was going to take a while. I was stretched out in the front seat. It was early, and i don't think i was fully awake yet. We were driving on a highway in front of a small shopping center with a discount store, a tire shop, and and a sandwich restaurant nearby.
We got off the highway. My mother switched on the brights. The sun wasn't completely up yet, and she couldn't see. She decided to take a shortcut through a park to save us some time. The park's gravel roads were pretty winding. The first turn she almost missed, because it was hard to see, and the turn was pretty sharp. She was going a little too fast. She almost made the turn, but ended up driving in the grass for a second. The next turn, she almost hit the corner of a chain link fence. "Slow down a little, the road's hard to see," i suggested. Third turn she missed completely. We went off the road and ended up driving through about three feet of water. The car somehow kept going, but the engine began sputtering, being flooded with water. We emerged on the other side. "Stop the car. Stop the car. Stop the car. Stop the car. Stop the car." We were going way too fast. The road passed parallel in front of us. We hit the upward slope and the car jumped. Time stops for a second. I can see the lake in front of us, swampy, nearly invisible under reedy plants. Time begins again, and the car plows into the water, begins to submerge and fill with water. My mother is floating above me, struggling violently. I can hear her. The interior of the car is entirely full of water. I reflexively hold my breath, but i don't struggle. I just give up completely as the car sinks further into the water. I don't really care. There's nothing i can do, so i let it happen, partially welcoming it. The last thing i think is, "Well, this is how it finally ends."
I woke up very slowly, and short of breath. My lungs still feel a little heavy.

Date: 2006-08-02 09:28 pm (UTC)I've decided if I ever do have a case with drowning, I'll actually try breathing the water. Because I don't want to go out like some of those dry drowning bastards, who don't get any water in their lungs at all.
"To dream that you are drowning, signifies that you are overwhelmed by emotions or repressed issues that is coming back to haunt you"
Just sharing.
