So, a couple of months ago, for no reason i could determine, my joystick stopped working on my PC. A couple of things glitched; sound went out, a program crashed, When i rebooted, no joystick. The Game Controllers control panel wouldn't open. When i tried, either i heard an error sound, or nothing happened at all. Worked on it a little in device manager and such, got the control panel to open, but that's about it. Kinda gave up on it.

Now, besides not being able to use a controller to play games (i have a USB adapter that lets me use my PS2 controller on the computer), i also can't use it how i usually do: as a mouse. I use a program to convert controller input to mouse movement and button presses, and i use it a LOT. Lets me switch windows, check mail, and such without getting up from watching TV, or while i'm playing other games, or lets me change the volume of music or change songs, or whatever, while i'm in bed and such. So a couple of months without that has been, well not terrible, but a little less convenient.

Well, i fixed it today. Got a little ambitions and searched Google again. Found ONE hit relevant to my exact problem. Seemed someone else had the game controller control panel issue, and traced it back to a screwy USB toy he had plugged in to his computer. Well, i had a USB base for a little handheld IM device i don't use much. Unplugged it went back through all the steps i'd been through before. Boom. Works. Tada. So happy. Didn't realize how much i used the controller until i had it working again.

Sucks that Windows Update took three reboots before it finally actually updated anything today, and the start menu kept disappearing/turning black, otherwise i'd be REALY happy about the computer this afternoon. ;P

What else did i do today? Played .hack//G.U. Vol. 2: Reminisce (love how long that name is, amuses me to type it out every time) so much i got bored and don't feel like i REALLY REALLY want to play it more tonight. Well, maybe a little. Watched Ashe work for a while on an animation that i helped out with a little, and played a little Super Mario Bros. 3 with her. And i had a salad, with ginger dressing for lunch, mmm. And, ummm... that's it, really. I've also been sleeping lately. Amazing.

Gotta check TV listings for tonight. A bunch of my shows are back on now. -.-; Then i'll grab a glass of tea, and maybe play .hack//G.U. Vol. 2: Reminisce (c&p that time) for an hour before Big Brother comes on.

Five.

Yesterday on All Games Interactive, a live, near-daily broadcast/podcast about video games (kinda) that i listen to, they had a contest of identifying classic arcade game music. If you know me a little, you know this is one of my Things. So i decided to swallow my shyness and call the show for the first time, despite having listened for YEARS. Well, long story short, i won. I was the first with five correct answers (Duck Hunt, Frogger, Galaxian, Pole Position, and Double Dragon - the last one being a TOTAL guess). The other guy got none. :x I chose a F.E.A.R. stand-alone expansion as my prize during the show, but asked Scot (the host) later, if i could have Jade Empire for PC instead. Not sure which he's acutlaly gonna send, but it's ok, i'm sure my PC can't handle either, and i'd have fun with either one. So i'll save my prize for the future.

Some of you may remember, though i can't find the acutal LJ entry, that this is not the first time i won a prize for identifying classic arcade game music. I did this once before on a G4 show, either Attack Of The Show, or Screensavers, whichever it was at the time. G4 never did send me my prize, though. But hey, all that time "wasted" playing games as a kid has pays off.

Also, here's a link to where you can dowload the podcast if you wanna hear me win. I call in during minute #26.

So the last few days... What have i been up to? Sleeping almost too much... A change from before when i couldn't sleep at all. I guess my body is trying to catch up. I've been helping Ashe with one of her animations. Had a horrible dream yesterday about some rival wizards who ate a member of their own group, who was part sea turtle, and left his carcass shackled up in a bathroom, covered in greasy spider webs, where i discovered it while using some remote scrying technique. Watched some movies on and off. An old friend i haven't talked to in years found me on MySpace. Made some money. Played "Uncharted Waters: New Horizons". Filled out some surveys. Find out my views on God, celebrities, the evils of plastic surgery, my favorite video game characters, and such. )

fifthdream: (ed)

So i'm getting ready to take a bit of a nap this morning around 2:30am, and i hear something on the other side of the room make a nice, sharp, electronic SNAPping noise. I'm like "Wtf was that?" but didn't figure out what it was. A couple of minutes later i sit down at the PC and the picture on the monitor suddenly shrinks to about 1/3 of the size, flickers violently, and the thing starts SNAP/POP/BUZZING, quickly and repeatedly. GGKKZZZPPZZTTTGGKKZZZPPZZTTTGGKKZZZPPZZTTTGGKKZZZPPZZTTTETC!! I quickly spun the thing around, being careful not to touch it any more than i had to, and ripped the power cord out of it. -.-;

Luckily i have a spare monitor or two lying around, so i replace the asploded one, but... i see nothing. I have to just hit the power button to get the computer to restart, since i can't see anything to properly shut it down. Reboot, scandisk, checkdisc, wtf ever they call it now wants to run, of course, so i wait for that. Windows boots... Still can't see. Reboot the hard way again... Get in safe mode. I can see. Doesn't seem to be anything i can do in there, though. Reboot AGAIN and hope that "VGA Mode" thing i saw in the startup menu helps. Boot into Windows again. Looks like crap, but i can see. Gives me a warning, let's me reset my display, tada, i'm in business. Was worried there for a while i wasn't going to be able to use my computer properly. Trying to get used to this monitor because it does look a bit different, and seems to be about a half an inch smaller, judging by the text on screen, but the old one had been screwed up for s while, making streaks of color across the screen, and being darker on one side than the other... So this is an improvement. But yeah, what a pain.

At least i have homemade strawberry ice cream to make me feel better. So good.

I've been wanting to play "Uncharted Waters: New Horizons" (the SNES version, it's a cool world-exploration/piracy/goods-trading historical RPG set in the 15th century by KOEI, and one of my all-time favorite games) a lot the last day or so. I've been meaning to start up a new game of it for quite a while, but accidentally coming across the soundtrack yesterday and listening to it, and discovering it was by one of my favorite composers/musicians Yoko Kanno (which explains why i LOVE the music in it. Funny that it turns out i've been listening to her music for over 22 years, if you count some old video games i played, but i wasn't really aware of her until "Cowboy Bebop"), makes me want to actually get to it. Maybe i'll get around to it tonight, and play it a whle until i get around to ordering .hack//G.U. VOL. 2 Reminisce, and it arrivea.

But first, i think i need a nap.

Why is it 70 degrees in the first week of January? It's horrible. I want my Winter back. Haven't had one in years.

So i didn't sleep for 30 hours yesterday. No reason, other than when i lay down, i wasn't sleepy. So i finally went to sleep last night at around 8:30 and just got up. Odd schedule. I dunno what to do with myself at 5am. This is usually when i'm thinking of going to bed. Oh well, at last i have some left over biscuits and gravy for breakfast, and some juice. I'll figure out what i feel like doing later.

I've been playing Mortal Kombat: Armageddon again the last couple of days. I like making my own characters way too much. Yesterday i made a woman with a bowler cap, mechanical arms, an iron bustier, and brown leather jeans, and created a whole Steampunk fighting style for her. It was great. She looked awesome. Then i made two different Lara Crofts (regular blue swimsuit/brown shorts version, and the vinyl Matrix gear version), and two different Chun Lis (Street Fighter II, and Street Fighter Alpha versions), and gave her a kick-heavy fighting style. (I made Chun Li before, in Soul Calibur III. That was fun, too.) Seems they almost *want* you to make Lara Croft and Chun Li in the game, as they have everything you need for them. I mean, Chun Li's spiked bracelets and giant chunky boots are in there, and a "Mandarin" dress, along with a double-bun hairstyle. Too easy. (Seems they want you to make Trinity from the Matrix, too. Her hair style is even in there.)

P.S. Coconut Candy Canes own.

It's been a bit. I'll try to remember what i've done since i last posted.

Had SO MUCH food for Christmas. In fact, i still have tons of it in the freezer. That's cool, though, cuz i'll have stuff to snack on for a while. Speaking of Christmas, besides the Zone of the Enders i got a couple of weeks ago, my sister also got me .hack//G.U. Vol. 1 Rebirth, which i LOVE. Played it so much the last few days. Pi is my new crush. I guess i'll have to get the other two volumes eventually. She also got me some sea creature-themed bento picks and some little soy containers imported from Japan. So cute.

(Speaking of Japanese imports, she also shared with me some green pea-shaped-and-flavored chips, some of the candies that were featured in "Grave of the Fireflies" [saddest, and tastiest, candy ever], and some nut-flavored Bubblicious [o.O].)

And have i mentioned how much i love my library? Dragon Ball Volume 4 manga, and on DVD: War Of The Worlds (the Tom Cruise one), Superbad, The Last Starfighter (which i actually saw in a theater when it was new. :O Was on tv the other day, but i missed it, and felt like seeing it again), and volume one of the anime Samurai 7. So cool.

Umm, thought i had more to say, but i guess i've filled up the last few days with .hack//G.U. I guess i'll post this now, the go stare at Pi for a while.

fifthdream: (ed)

Why am i awake? i got sleepy at about 1:30am and decided i'd just go to bed. But i woke up four hours later. Ehh, at least i have breakfast: rice with milk, sugar, and butter. Mmmm.

Been meaning to post for a while, but i've been so occupied with fun things, i haven't had time. Or, rather, i felt like doing fun things, rather than posting.

Fun things? Yep. Like having even more stuff ftom the library: Fruits Basket Volume 17 (still need to read 16), and 300 and Jet Li's Enforcer on DVD. (I've also got "Sakuran" and "Nana 2" to watch, now, but not from the library).

I've been doing some cooking. I made corn chowder and croutons the other night, and they were both really good, espceially considering that i had no recipe whatsoever for either. (I mean, croutons aren't hard, but i made the corn chowder by just throwing random ingredients together.) I also made milk chocolate cupcakes, with butter cream frosting and chocolate sprinkles on top.

The cupcakes were part of my Annual Christmas Food Cooking Insanity. It's usually just Annual Christmas Cookie Cooking Insanity, because i make a ton of cookies and sweets, but this year i upgraded it to other food, too. I just had the urge a couple of week ago to make the cupcakes, so i decided to use the excuse of Christmas to have some, they'll hold me over until i get to making the real stuff. I plan on making pecan balls, hello dollies, lemon bars, chex mix (probably a sweet variation), more cupcakes (white, with red and green jello, whipped cream, and sprinkles on top), and chocolate chip, cherry chip, peppermint chip, and gingerbread cookies. I also want to make a deli tray-ish swort of thing on Christmas Eve for the family, with vegetables and dip, and celery with cream cheese and raisins, and some chips and dips and such. Also, i hope to make some peppermint ice cream on Christmas. My sister is making a log cake, too, and maybe something else i can't remember. (Crap, i forgot animal crackers and rice krispies for treats.) I also have bags of Christmas hard candy and a few boxes of candy canes. Mmmm, sugar.

Besides the cupcakes, something else Early-Christmasy is i got Zone Of The Enders in the mail. I would have save it for Christmas, but i had to see if it worked so i could leave feedback on eBay (which reminds me: i should do that soon). I got it Friday afternoon, and beat it last night around 11. Heh. Short, but it was decently fun, and had a nicely demented story. Worth having just for the title song i love, and to keep me from getting too antsy before Christmas.

Speaking of Christmas: if anyone wanted to get me a small present, i'm always begging for LJ paid time. ;P Now's the time when they have that deal again that if you gift someone some paid time, they get extra userpics for free. Maybe that'll sway someone. ;D I just really wanna correct the url to my webpage (which i can't edit without a paid account), and save my old userpics from deletion for another six months. Thanks in advance (and many more to come afterwards), if anyone is so kind. ::bows::

I think i'm caught up on entry-type stuff, so i suppose i'll waste some time with a survey. )

-"Record Of Lodoss War" for Dreamcast. (It's basically Diablo on the Dreamcast - with a lot more customization (adding attributes to, naming, and even changing the color of weapons and armor) - based on an anime.)

-Fried bologna sandwiches, with onions, on sun-dried tomato/basil bread, dipped in ranch dressing. So good.

-Mini blueberry bagels dipped in butter and homemade blackberry jelly.

So, yesterday i wake up with a song in my head, "Kiss Me Sunlights", by Heart Of Air, from the soundtrack to a PS2 game called "Zone Of The Enders". Someone randomly (and i do mean randomly) sent me this song a couple of years ago. I like it a lot, it's one of my favorite songs. I often refer to it as the prettiest song ever. So i fire up my playlist and listen to it... for like two hours straight. I go to get the lyrics, because i wanted to post them in an entry here. On the lyrics site is a YouTube video of the opening of the game...

Back to a few days ago, my sister asks me what i want for Christmas. Playing Tetris with money (ie buying as much as possible with what little money is available) is something we're used to, so i just flat out ask, "how much did you plan on spending?" Okay, so i know what i have to work with. I figure i'll get a couple of games off of eBay, like i usually do. But i can't think of any i want.

Up a couple of more days: In my sleep i realize, hey, i've kinda wanted .hack//G.U. Vol. 1 Rebirth, since i watched the anime .hack//Roots, which is a direct prequel to the .hack//G.U. series, and want to know what happens next. (MUST. SAVE. SHINO.) So i figure i'll check out how much it costs on eBay.

Back to yesterday: Having checked prices, i know, generally how much .hack//G.U. Vol. 1 Rebirth (type that five times fast, i'm copying and pasting now) costs. So, listening to "Kiss Me Sunlights" over and over, and seeing the intro video, and the pretty music that's in it after "Kiss Me Sunlights", i suddenly want the game. No, NEED the game. I eBay it. ELEVEN DOLLARS WITH SHIPPING. ENDS IN SEVEN HOURS. SELLER WITH HUGE FEEDBACK. :O So i IM my sister. "GAME! WANT! ENDS SOON! XMAS GET!" She IMs me back, she's about to go somwhere, so she tells me just order it so the auction doesn't end before she gets back in.

So i did. :D

I bought a game solely for one song. But i hear the game is good, so, hey, bonus. But it was like the game was just sitting there, waiting for me, and the song was in my head telling me "GET ME, PLZ ::kitten eyes:: I'LL LOVE YOU FOREVER". For an eleven dollar portion of my Christmas presents, just to see the intro with the song in it, it's worth it. Also there's a game attached. So yeah. Woot.

Also, i told my sister about .hack//G.U. Vol. 1 Rebirth. A few minutes later, she told me she has all of her Christmas shopping done. I suppose that means i'm getting it, too. XD Darla will be happy. She loves the .hack games, and especially G.U., and has been urging me to get and play this game for a while.

Speaking of Darla, she called yesterday, all excited about getting to move to Japan. I'm so jealous. She'll be there fo three years. I want her to take me with her. ;_; She promises to send me lots of things though. That's cool, too.

So, yay, barring sucky eBay sellers, and problems with mail, and acts of God, i'ma have Christmas stuff. Now i'm finally looking forward to December 25th.

By the way, here's the intro to "Zone Of The Enders" that made me want the game, so you can hear the song i love. It's the music at the beginning, before the start screen (though the addition of the start screen music made me really *need* the game).

I think i'm gonna go watch some Dragonauts. I already played Record Of Lodoss War for like three hours today.

fifthdream: (ed)

I saw this on tv a few days ago and *needed* to share (which required me doing it all myself, since it wasn't on YouTube). It's a parody of the game Katamari Damacy, from the cartoon "Chowder" (which is hilarious).

It's been a while since i've made much of an entry. Um. Seems it's been sort of wake up, do stuff, watch stuff, play stuff, talk to people, sleep, not always in that order, straight for a month. ...Make that almost a month and a half.

Let's see, recent stuff... err... Fall TV season began. Heores, Ani-Monday, House, Kid Nation, Survivor, Smallville, Earl, Office, SNL... Been checking out Big Bang Theory, Reaper, and that caveman show too, to see if i'm gonna keep watching them... So much freaking TV.

Been perfecting my doctored ramen recipe, screwing around with the emulation scene on DreamCast, got a reply from someone in my LJ who i once listed as a "celebrity crush" on a survey <.<, hung out with Ash(e) finally Saturday for a little while (she's awesome, really), finally saw the Aqua Teen Hunger Force movie, remastered some old game music remixes i did (Tamagotchi and Tetris), and finally started playing Pokemon Diamond.

Beginning to watch like 82736278 anime series: BECK, Code Geass, Ikkitousen, Ghost Hunt (on Ash(e)'s recommendation), Mobile Suit Gundam 00 (which just began), Paradise Kiss, and need to track down something Saori Yamamoto recommended... Made a list of all the anime series i've watched all the way through. Came to 60, i believe. Around 35 is the list of things i've started and intend to finish. Assuming i remembered everything.

Also started reading "Brave New World" finally.

Whew. Yeah, probably not exciting to anyone else but me, but as long as it is to me, i guesss that's what matters.

fifthdream: (Chobits - guru-guru)

Not much to talk about other than all the games i've been playing lately. Got back into Final Fantasy XII the other day, which i hadn't played for a while, when i suddenly got on a kick and decided to install The Sims again, which i hadn't played since i lived in North Carolina. i got obsessed with that for a couple of days (tracking down, downloading, and setting up a lot of the stuff i used to have, then finally actually *playing*), then the Mortal Kombat: Armageddon that i ordered for my birthday arrived, and i played it a ton. Today the Soul Calibur III that i ordered for my birthday arrived. I'd rented it before, and had created characters that i wanted to play again. Since i could get it cheap now, i did. i forgot that you could create way more than three characters. Bonus. I didn't want to delete my cool characters to make more.

Oh, also i got Bejeweled Deluxe free from PopCap. Hah, nice. It's usually $15, but they gave it away for Mother's Day if you signed up for their mailing list, which i did, just to get the game. ;P

Unrelated note: What's this crap on Heroes about trying to "save the world"? They're trying to save new York City, right? Has Sylar expressed any interest in the "world"? If so, i wasn't payting attention.

And i'm suddenly really sleepy, and have a bit of a headache. I think it's time for bed.

fifthdream: (Yumi - E-cup)

I just realized i didn't write about my birthday, yet.

Lets see: My sister took me to see "Spider-Man 3". (Spider-Man the musical? WHY? Remove that twenty minutes of BS in the middle and release it like that on DVD. It'll be better. Also: maybe a little more Gwen Stacey, ifyouknowhatimean. And it seem emo hair is the new goatee, in terms of signifying evilness.) Had carrot cake my dad made for me, and really good vanilla ice cream. Scored some gift money, so now i can grab a couple of games. (I decided on Soul Calibur III, because i miss the F-A: Greentype and Chun Li fighters i made when i rented it a long time ago, and Mortal Kombat: Armageddon, because i remembered it existed yesterday during the movie, and i really wanted it when it came out. All MK characters ever + create a character = ftw.) And i might have enough left over for a couple months of LJ paid time to keep my old icons alive for another few months, (unless someone wanted to gift some to me as a late present ::bats eyelashes:: ;P). And that's it, really. Nice, pleasant day. Better than expected.

Cherry Limeade Sunkist is awesome soda.

Women's Ninja Warrior is the best show ever on television. For some reason, cute Japanese women running through obstacle courses is the most facscinating, entertaining thing in existence.

I played Diablo 2: Lord of Destruction instead of showering tonight. So what? I can shower when i wake up.

Quick library stuff-i-have list: Hellsing manga volume 1, Dragon Ball manga volume 1, "The Hidden Blade" Japanese Samurai movie on dvd, "Children of Men" dvd, and a Kim Harrison book ("Dead Witch Walking"). I also still have Fruits Basket 12 and 13, and Hikaru no Go volume 1, but i read those....

Okay, see, enough of this 60-degree weather followed by ice storms that cut off hundreds of thousands peoples' power for a week, repeat. The nice fluffy whiite snow that is covering everything right now is what makes me happy. That's the Winter i miss so much.

Not much to write about other than the broken-record of "Darla called me a bunch the last few days", "playing Final Fantasy XII (neglecting my blog about it, but i'll get back to that soon)", and "reading lots of manga/watching lots of movies" that seems to be my life, and the contents of my journal most often.

Speaking of... Library love: Right now i have out Naruto volume 7, hardcover. Hardcover manga? Does this exist? Apparenlty so, since i have it. I also have Psychic Academy volume 9, and Fruits Basket... 11 maybe? 12? I have a Psychic Academy DVD, too (Mew = so much <333), and "Dave Chappelle's Block Party". From the library. Own.

I also have apple cherry juice which makes me smile.

Tonight i: ...ate lamb. ...played a demo of the PS2 game "Okami" that came on a disc with a magazine that i got a free subscription to. (It's fun. And really pretty. I want to get the whole thing. You play as a wolf/Japanese sun godess Ameratsu, and the game looks like a painting, and you can pause the screen and do things on it, from attacking, to making wind and bombs, to putting stars in the sky by "painting" on the screen. Really cool concept.) ...received a couple of phone calls from Darla. (She says i should always write about her, so here it is.) ...watched more .hack//Roots. ...and filled out this thing below.

Not much went on this week. Got a little sick (mostly to my stomach) for a couple of days. Got a call from Darla last night. I've been getting into some Dreamcast shooter games (you know, little space ship versus a massive wave of enemy spaceships/mechs/gun turrets/missiles/millions of tiny bullets), even though i suck at them. Read lots of comic and manga. Helped name some baby rats Chii and Ren. And um... the regular boring things.

Speaking of comics and manga: i got three more volumes of X-Men stuff, and a couple of Psychic Academy (though it was 5 and 6, and i'm still waiting for 4 -.-;) from the library. I'm falling behind again. I have four Fruits Basket to get through, too.

Monday, i'm quite probably going to the Japanese festival in St. Louis. Should be fun if it's not too hot and i don't wear myself out.

Happy Birthday to my sister! ;D

I think i'm about to beat Gauntlet Legends.

An associate producer from OurPrisoner.com found me and the post i made about it. ::waves:: I'm trying not to get addicted to the site, but they're dragging me in! ;D

And... here's a survey. )

Time to put on some music and play video games before going to bed.

fifthdream: (ed)

Not much to post about. Not much has been going on.

Occupied myself with my Dreamcast, playing a lot of Half-Life, messing around with a Gameshark, getting on the 'net to upload and back up all of my save files so i have more room for saves for games i'm currently playing...

I've finally seen Invader Zim. Everyone i talk to about it with seemed kind of suprised that i'd never seen it before (not even one minute of it), and it's apparently the kind of thing i'd enjoy. And i do. It's been on MTV2 the last couple of nights, and i ran across it and saw a few episodes. It's pretty funny.

I made lemon squares, again. They are very good, again.

And the coolest thing in a while: Trent Reznor and Peter Murphy are apparently doing a little thing, playing radio shows together while they're on tour, and doing duets of Nine Inch Nails and Bauhaus songs. It's insane. Last night they did "Head Like A Hole", "Sanity Assassin", and "Hurt". Jesus, hearing Petey singing a slow version of "Head Like A Hole" is just... freaking amazing. Download it here. I've got to get my hands on the rest the shows they do.

Time to watch the rest of episode 10 of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya and go to bed.
