"What we’ve done essentially with OFW is to start with a naked soldier and, in line with the goal of reducing overall weight and bulk and load for the individual soldier, worked our way out. So we have things like incorporated physiological status monitors that are built into the garment system. We also have a heating and cooling microclimate conditioning system that we want to see built into the garment system."
The OFW is a head-to-toe system. The helmet, for example, is considered part of the ensemble with integrated optics like thermal and infra-red sensor fusion, and day- and night-video cameras. Additional helmet features include global positioning and antennas."
