fifthdream: (O.O)

The stuff i really want people to read immediately follows the "------------". So if you don't care to read about my crappy 'net connection problems, skip down to there and read. ;P

Wow.

So, my last couple of days went like this:

Sleeping... sleeping... WOOSH. Silence. No fan noise. Way too quiet. Power is out. Wake up. DSL is out again. It had gone out two Sunday nights in a row for a few hours, no idea why, but it always came back on. So i waited.

And waited.

It didn't come back on. So the next morning i call the ISP. After navigating the maze of the Computer Who Answers The Phone, i let it connect to someone, and tell them what's going on. She helps me through something that i actually hadn't known to try, but it doesn't change anything. So she tries connecting me to maintenance, but they aren't answering, so she gives me the whole deal that someone may have to be sent out, if it's a problem on my end, i'd have to pay for it, blah blah, but can they call me tomorrow? ::sigh::

Next day, power goes out again. Whee. Tried to sleep with no noise. Succeeded a little. Phone rings. It's the DSL maintenance guy. He connects me to someone else, from the modem/router manufacturer, apparently, they run me through a few things. Something ALMOST works, but ultimately. nothing. Chick on the phone tells me, basically, "Um, heh, well... we get a lot of calls about that model... like, about them not working... Heh, um... They're defective... But, ummmm... since it's not under warranty, we can't send you another one...

Well, 'kay, sorry. Have a nice day!"

O.O

I mean, i can't be mad, cuz at least she had the decency to sound *really* embarrassed about it. But, Christ, now what? (At least they didn't have to send anyone out.)

So i use my 10 hours-or-whatever of dial up service to get on the web and look for a new modem/router. Now, see, i don't have ethernet on this PC. I'm not even sure i could put it in. So i need a USB connection on the modem. Wow, it took a while to find one that still has USB on it. And it's not cheap. But, you know, can't do much without one. So i'm looking at real store sites, hoping i can find something i can go pick up that night. Nope. Nothing. Find one at Newegg, finally. Order it and pay way too much for shipping, just so i can have it sometime in the next millennium. CC gets rejected because their site changed the expiration date when the page refreshed. Still hasn't processed as far as i can tell. Shipping is "second day". (Does that mean the day after it's sent, or two days later?) "Processing" may take up to two days, but who knows what they count as days. They don't ship on weekends, so if it doesn't get "processed" soon, it may not even SHIP 'til Monday. So i have no idea when it may actually arrive. Or if it'll actually work once it does. Not to mention i can't afford this. Guh.

Jesus, and i just want to get online and get some crap done.

On top of this, as i mentioned, my DSL service gives me like 10 hours of dialup to use, which i'd already been using the other times the connection died. I can get on for a couple of minutes at a time to check mail and get on the web when i really need to, but i'm trying to conserve my time. Anyway, i got on to check my mail this morning, sign off, forgot to check something, dial back in half hour later, and it says my password is invalid. W. T. F. Call the ISP's creepy computer again, get a new access number. Nothing. Call and reset my password AGAIN (did that with the previous service calles yesterday). Nothing. Seriously, WTF. Call the scary robot lady again, navigate through menu options completely unrelated to my problem just to get to a real person. He does... something... Password works again. Jesus. I'm going to lose my mind. (And just now, i went to look at some webpages i loaded to read offline, and my browser had an error and closed, so now i have to reload them AGAIN, on DIALUP, with LIMITED MINUTES. Arrgh. Oh, thank god, they actually opened offline, so i can read them now, without connecting. ...Assuming it doesn't crash again.)

But, yeah, no real 'net til who-knows-when. Glad i have a bunch of games and movies on this PC to watch, and a bunch of stuff on Dreamcast to play to waste time that would normally be wasted on the 'web or on IRC. Or maybe i'll burn a bunch of anime and have a marathon session. Or study Japanese some more. ::shrug::

------------

Okay, non-'net related stuff, mostly:

Since i don't have innarnetz for a while, if anyone wants to email me (fifthdream a*t gmail d*o*t c*o*m) or message me on MySpace with something to read and/or respond to, feel free. Or post some surveys for me to fill out or something. ;P I'll be getting on for a couple minutes at a time every once in a while to check email and the web. Waste some time with me. Help keep me from being insanely bored. XD

Oh, nyone know of ny trial/free/very cheap dialup services i can use for a bit until i'm settled?

Someone gift me some LJ paid time to make me feel better, since my account is about to run out again. ;P

Wow, i just realized i'm hungry.

Darla called early this morning. It was nice to hear from her. I think she said she was gonna call again later, but i was so disoriented from all my talking-to-computers-and-help-people lately, i may have misunderstood. XD

And why is Paris Hilton being on Larry King on the news? So now news shows do news about people being on tv shows? Wow. No wonder i don't watch the news. And now, another news story about someone else on another news show. Again. Also: the existence of the iPhone is not news, it's an advertisement,. Stop bring Apple's whore and talking about the useless, overpriced, overhyped, trendy yuppie-emo buggy thing. I. Do. Not. Care. Tell me news, not gossip and ads. Jeez, tv news sucks.

Also, meant to respond to a "hi" i got on my LJ comments the other day, but haven't got a chance since my 'net died right after. So "hi". Write me and catch me up on stuff, or something. ;)

Anyway, i think i'll eat something and get some more sleep.

My boredom/cutoffedness = long scroll on your friends list. ;P
