Too late to explain in full.....
Sep. 16th, 2003 11:15 pmHis name has just been spoken (spoken!)
so there must be a word to be broken, (bop-shoo-bop)!
Tut tut! Too late to explain in full!
Watch out!
Watch out!, for the Silly Bull!
OH MY GOD! I'm sure there are none of you who have any idea what this means. It's possible, but i doubt it.
This is a little song from a TV show called "The Letter People" which only ran in St. Louis, and a few select other areas in the 70's and 80's. The Letter People were, of course, letters.... Mr. C was "Cotton Candy". Mr. P was "Pointy Patches", Mr. T (Yes, Mr. T came before the OTHER Mr. T!) was "Tall Teeth", Mr. M was "Munchy Mouth", Mr. H Was "Horrible Hair", Mr. S was "Super Socks", Mr. V was "Violet Velvet Vest" (which happens to be an AIM name i have), etc., and the vowels were female, Miss A, Miss I, etc. It was not only a TV show, but there were also records (Know what those are, kids?), books, and inflatable Letter people that were used in school (we had the inflatables in kindergarten, and listened to the records at nap time). The aim of the show, obviously, was to teach the alphabet.
The characters were very trippy-hippy and odd, but it was great, and for those who got to see it, it became one of those freaky/fond memories you have from being a kid. The show had little stories, were honestly funny and clever on occasions, and most of the 15-minute-long episodes had some songs in them.
Now i said the show taught the alphabet, but it also taught about the properties of words, discussed odd spellings and silent leters, etc. This song is from a special series of episodes, very much like "Kung Fu" in style and appearance, with a Karate-chopping monk, and the Silly Bull, who broke words into... SYALLABLES. Sylly Bull, syllable.. Get it? Whenever a word had more than one syllable, a song would play, and the Silly Bull would come and ram it with his head, and break it into bits. He would snort and laugh after doing so.
Well, long story longer, this song i remembered all through my childhood, and still remember, audio-perfect, in my head to this day. I could sing it from memory, and hum the whole tune, always... and i haven't seen the thing on tv in 15 years, nor had i heard it anywhere else...
...UNTIL TODAY.
Someone on a Letter People mailing list i'm on, as i requested weeks ago, has made an MP3 of it! This tiny piece of my childhood, with a large piece of real estate in my head, has been revived and renewed. I can now listen to it at any time it pleases me... and it always pleases me.
Now you can share this catchy little piece of my childhood, for a limited time only: Watch out! Watch out!, for the Silly Bull! It's a small file. The quality isn't great, but come on, it was recorded off of a TV from a show that was made in the 70's. Enjoy!
